Russia’s UAZ develops right-hand drive car for exports

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Feb 17 (PRIME) -- Russian carmaker UAZ is creating a right-hand drive car for exports to countries with left-hand driving, the Ulyanovsk Region Governor Sergei Morozov’s press office said in a statement late on Thursday following a visit to the plant and a meeting with CEO Vadim Shvetsov.

“We have returned to the Latin American countries. We plan to develop cooperation with China and Vietnam. We are now working on creation of a right-hand drive car in order to enter the markets of ‘the right-hand drive’ countries, like Indonesia. We are in intensive negotiations with Iran,” Shvetsov said, as cited by the statement.

UAZ plans to double car exports this year, and to raise the share of exports in its sales to 40% in next three to four years from the current 8–10%, he said.

Previously, UAZ said it raised car sales by 1% on the year to 48,800 cars in 2016, but exports plunged 29.29% to 3,467 cars.
